Blaukraut (German Red Cabbage)

three tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1 onion, finely chopped
1 huge apple - peeled, cored and diced
2 pounds crimson cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
1/2 cup vegetable broth
4 tablespoons cider vinegar
salt to taste
clean-floor black pepper
2 tablespoons lingonberry jam (non-compulsory)

Instructions :

Melt butter in a big pan. Add sugar and stir till it has a light caramel colour, approximately 5 mins. Add onion and apples; cook dinner and stir till the onions start to soften, approximately five minutes. Add cabbage and cook till heated through, approximately 5 mins.
Stir in broth, apple cider vinegar, and salt. Cover and simmer until flavors are properly combined, about half-hour. Season with salt and pepper and stir in lingonberry jam in the direction of the stop of the cooking time if desired.

Notes :
